Introduction:
This Patek Philippe 431J Extra Large Curved Rectangular Art Deco watch features a case that measures 25 x 47mm including the lugs. The watch is fitted with a 10” 200 caliber 18-jewel movement, #950853 and case #644310 and comes with a raised gold Breguet numerals on the dial as mentioned in the extract from the archives. The dial has the long signature of the period that has been refinished. The case is an extremely fine example with very strong hallmarks that have not been rubbed or published away. The is a brilliant example of this reference. The watch is triple signed, dial, case, movement. The watch is further accompanied with a 18K Patek vintage buckle. and a generic crocodile strap
Date & Paperwork:
The watch was made in 1947, confirmed with an extract from the archives confirming its date of manufacture and further sale. Additionally, the watch comes with a one year movement guarantee.
Condition:
The condition is really like new. It was found in a drawer in Europe by one of the family members that said that it was given as a gift and rarely worn. Must have been for occasions only. We don't know what the engraving means or if they are initials what they are. The hallmarks are very strong and not rubbed. The watch keeps great time and has been serviced. Most all vintage watches of the early days has had to refinish or re-print the dial due to the oxidization of the painted surface
Essay:
Reference 431 was produced beginning around 1929 through 1947, and is one of the rare watch models that was produced before references were given. It was given the reference 431 in 1932, and over its period of production, was made in several series using different caliber movements.
